Positioning food in the freezer

The freezer is used for storing frozen food, making ice cubes and freezing fresh food.

Never store fresh food next to frozen food as this can thaw the frozen food.
- 2.
Wrap and seal fresh food ensuring the packaging is air tight before placing into the freezer. Freezer or Polythene bags and foil is ideal.
- 3.
Never place warm food in the freezer.
- 4.
Never place glass bottles or cans in the freezer as the contents will burst when the contents freeze.
- 5.
When freezing food, divide it into portions that will be consumed in one sitting.
- 6.
Foods that are liquid should be stored in a plastic cups.
- 7.
Always consume thawed frozen food within a short period of time.
- 8.
Never refreeze thawed frozen food.
- 9. After placing fresh food into the freezer, change the thermostat to 4 or 5 for 24 hours. After the 24 hour period you can change the thermostat if required.For more information, see the Fridge and freezer temperature settings topic.
